Abstract:
The aim of the project is to research whether and to what degree legal representation has evolved from its civilist counterpart into an autonomous procedural concept. The relevance of this research lies in the insights it may provide us not only about the rules governing legal representation, but also, on a higher level, on the relation between civil law and procedural law and more specifically on the degree of autonomy of the latter. Firstly, an overview is given of representation under civil law, after which the distinctiveness of procedural law as a branch of public law with specific aims and principles is pointed out. A third part analyzes legal representation as a procedural concept, so that in a final chapter conclusions can be drawn as to the specificity of legal representation and, more generally, of procedural law as an autonomous legal field
