Abstract:
Both in Europe and in Asia there is an ever-growing interest in the regional harmonisation of contract law and related areas of private law. While in the context of the European Union, academic efforts to create the PECL and DCFR culminated in a proposal for a Common European Sales Law, countries in Asia are also increasingly interested in regional harmonisation of contract law. Thus, efforts to create Principles of East Asia Contract Law are well under way and various countries consider going further and creating binding rules. The aim of this project is to compare these harmonisation efforts in Europe and Asia and to place these in a wider institutional and cultural context.
