Abstract:
The research project aims to shed light on the consequences of the independence movements being faced in the EU for the status of European citizenship and the Nationality Laws. For the first time, the EU is dealing with a potential case of succession of an EU Member State. Will the citizens of the new states of Scotland, Flanders or Catalonia be deprived of those rights? What will be the situation of those EU citizens from other Member States residing in the new states, and third country nationals? Focus will be placed in three Member States: Spain, United Kingdom and Belgium.
