Abstract:

This study will examine the role domestic courts play in global climate governance and particularly in the interpretation and elucidation of vague or only collective provisions of the Paris Agreement. The proposed research will provide a thorough understanding of the interaction between international and national legal systems particularly national courts to address the challenge of combatting climate change. It will identify whether national courts (could) develop common principles and interpretations of the often vague and collective obligations of the Paris Agreement in light of achieving its aim: to prevent a dangerous increase of the global average temperature.
