Abstract:
Since 2015, the global food crisis has deteriorated. However, as the predominant forum for the creation of new rules governing international trade, mega-regional trade agreements pay scant attention to food security. Intellectual property regulations gradually become the dominant focus of regional trade discussions, and will have a substantial impact on food security. This study comparatively analyses the food security-related IP provisions in four representative mega-RTAs, their underlying causes, and their implications for global food security. Based on this analysis, the study will provide recommendations for incorporating IP provisions in RTAs in a manner that is sensitive to food security-related concerns.
