Abstract:
The recent rapid inclusion of social sustainability, research is needed in social sustainability and its potential (but needed) transformation in consumer market law. Unlike the eco-labels where policy is strengthened to ensure sustainable consumers in the sustainability debate, social labels remain severly privatised. The main development of criteria and labels has been developed by private actors, mainly NGOs. The risk of fragmented information could quickly lead to social washing. A need for a harmonised information on social sustainability is underdeveloped but much needed for consumers.
