Abstract:
Unilateral sectoral sanctions represent a grey area of international law, as they are considered tools of foreign policy at a crossroads between diplomacy and military force. While often used as an instruments of economic warfare in inter-state relations, the regulation and implications of imposing unilateral sectoral sanctions under international law remain unclear, as these measures are generally not addressed from the perspective of the law governing armed force. This study aims to fill this gap by exploring the interplay between the adoption of unilateral sectoral sanctions and the legal frameworks surrounding the use of armed force.
